Sugar Cane thoroughly analyzed our forerunners jeans from the start of the 1900s in chronicle order from yarn, dye, weave and construction to components . Sugar Cane have the actual results of fabric woven and colour fade test on the original pants worn. In order to create their own original jeans, it took over 20 years of research. To perfectly reproduce denim fabrics from 50 to 100 years ago in today ’ s advanced period is extremely difficult. To begin with Sugar Cane had to look for old power looms that had worked to weave denim fabric in those days, restore them and adjust them to weave the fabric. It was not easy to revive the old machines that disappeared a long time ago due to advent of new automated processes but Sugar Cane have managed to keep tradition alive.

Sugar Cane have thoroughly analyzed our forerunners jeans from the 1900 ’ s in chronicle order from yarn, dye, weave and construction to components . We have with us the actual results of fabric woven and colour fade test on the original pants worn. In order to create our own original jeans, it took over 20 years of research. To perfectly reproduce denim fabrics from 50 to 100 years ago in today ’ s advanced period is extremely difficult. To begin with we had to look for old power looms that had worked to weave denim fabric in those days, restore them and adjust them to weave the fabric we have. It was not easy to revive the old machines that disappeared a long time ago due to rationalization. Nowadays, the old power looms are not so unusual but in the early research stage, satisfactory fabrics could not be woven on the old looms found. It was a joint operation with the weaver of trial and failure and advanced step by step.

Yarn is also a very important factor for vintage denim; the cotton is carefully selected, blended, spun and indigo dyed exclusively for each model. Through many processes we finally had success in developing perfect vintage denim of which the surface looks rough and uneven, and indigo warp yarn fades like original old vintage denim. We believe that authentic vintage jeans can only be revived by the same process as original jeans and so had to search for a sewing factory that still has old sewing machines and experienced sewers. Our denim fabrics, after inspection, are delivered to our sewing factory to be cut and sewn. Also the original rivets, buttons and patch are put on by the bands of well-skilled workers. Every pair of Sugar Cane jeans is completed this way.

The newest, fourth model is ‘ Sugar Cane Edo ’ . Edo is the name of an era in Japan from 1597 to 1868. The yarn for ‘ Sugar Cane Edo ’ denim is dyed by a method invented more than 200 years ago. This original ‘ Sugar Cane ’ denim series are the products made by a combination of know-how that we have learnt from long experiences of vintage reproduction and our Japanese tradition that we are still proud of.

Uniquely Japanese denim made from — you guessed it- sugar cane. For many years, Sugar Cane Jeans were a ferociously guarded Japanese secret but today the brand is attracting global attention. Interestingly, Sugar Cane prefer to use the vintage term ‘dungarees’ in preference to the term ‘jeans’ to describe their product: “The word ‘jeans’ has become the vernacular for faux denim fashion wear that masquerades as the tough, classic waist overalls history made famous.

Sugar Cane Jeans – Official Detergent for Denim

Sugar Cane Jeans - Official Detergent for Denim

Sugar Cane vintage wash & Premium care enzyme detergent for Denim. Carton with 10 sachets of Vintage wash & Premium Care.

Prepare cold water or luke-warm water more than 30L, in an adequately large container (best not over 20 degrees Celsius), DO NOT WASH IN HOT WATER. By washing in hot water, the indigo blue dye will lose its natural shade. Mix the detergent with water. If you are worried about excessive indigo loss (usually not a problem with Japanese makes), then add a table spoon of salt to help the indigo hold fast (please no sea water, you don’t know what’s in there…). Add jeans & let it sit in the water for ~20 minutes. After about 2 minutes in the water, the enzymes in the ‘vintage wash’ is already starting to take effect – will notice the water becoming murky.Hand wash the jeans. Rinse your jean with cold water and ensure all the detergent is washed away.

Add the Sugar Cane ‘premium care’solution to water and soak the jeans in it for 15 minutes, then proceed to drying (do not rinse out the treatment solution).

Dry your jeans in the shade and NOT direct sunlight to avoid fading in the sun.

With a sparkling score of beloved standards and a whimsical story that dances between romance, satire and fairy tale, FINIAN’S RAINBOW is a musical theater treasure.

Set in the mythical southern state of Missitucky, FINIAN’S RAINBOW pits a charming Irish dreamer and his headstrong daughter against the host of complications that await them in their newly adopted land: a bigoted southern Senator, a credit crisis, a pesky leprechaun and, of course, a complicated love affair that gives birth to some of the most witty, charming and heartfelt songs ever written for the stage.

Sugar Cane Jeans at Capsule Show

Sugar Cane Jeans at Capsule ShowOur friends over at Sugar Cane (the original eco denim) have asked Kitmeout to mention that they’ll be Capsule Show in Las Vegas on Feb. 17 & 18 2009 AT THE LEGENDERY HARD ROCK HOTEL.

Sugar Cane Jeans are constructed of fibres derived from the plant that gave rise to the brand name SUGAR CANE. Sugar is made from sugar cane, which seems simple enough, but not everyone knows that sugar cane and its byproducts contain essential amino acids and enzymes necessary to fuel and rejuvenate our bodies. Likewise, byproducts from sugar cane are used to fuel automobiles in Brazil in order to have a less harmful impact on the environment rather than found in burned fuels of a purely fossil origin. Following these facts in a rather philosophical approach, the textile specialists at Sugar Cane were the first in the world to produce a selvage denim fabric made from woven cotton yarns and sugar cane fibres .

De La Soul + Sugar Cane Jeans

De La Soul + Sugar Cane JeansMega group De La Soul are massive Sugar Cane fans and are seen here wearing their favourite denim brand with Flavor Flav the prolific hype man of Public Enemy.

De La Soul is a Grammy Award-winning hip hop group from Amityville, New York. They are best known for their eclectic sampling and quirky, surreal lyrics, and their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap subgenre. The members are Kelvin Mercer (Posdnuos, Mercenary, Plug Wonder Why, Plug One), David Jude Jolicoeur (Trugoy the Dove, Dave, Plug Two) and Vincent Mason (P.A. Pasemaster Mase, Maseo, Plug Three). The three formed the group in high school and caught the attention of producer Paul Huston (Prince Paul) with a demo tape of the song “Plug Tunin'”. Prince Paul was also sometimes referred to as Plug Four.

With its playful wordplay, innovative sampling, and witty skits, the band’s debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, was hailed as a hip-hop masterpiece.[citation needed] It is also the band’s biggest commercial success to date, with their subsequent albums selling progressively less, despite receiving praise from critics. A measure of 3 Feet High and Rising’s cross-over appeal was the fact that it was voted Album of the Year by NME Magazine, a title better known for its taste in guitar-based music. De La Soul has influenced numerous other hip hop artists such as Camp Lo, Black Eyed Peas, and Digable Planets. They were also instrumental in the early stages of rapper/actor Mos Def’s career, and are a core part of the Spitkicker collective. They are the longest standing Native Tongues Posse group, after the Jungle Brothers.

Sugar Cane Jeans, The Eco Answer?

Sugar Cane Jeans, The Eco Answer?ECO-TIPS FOR JEANS

Sugar Cane Jeans, the original environmentally progressive brand is perhaps the answer to the denim woes highlighted by UNEP?

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) presents an innovative ad to sensitize young people to climate change through… their jeans!

Paris, France – March 2008 – Among the sustainability challenges that affect our planet, climate change is clearly the most urgent one. Scientific evidence has made it clear that global warming is caused by human activities and notably by our consumption patterns.

Young and old, we are all concerned. Young people are notably keen to take meaningful actions, but what can they do? Through an entertaining approach with its TV spot “Eco-tips for jeans ” UNEP aims to focus on, what is for many of them, one of their favorite pastimes: fashion in general and “their jeans” in particular.

Today, many in the fashion sector are concerned by their impacts on the environment, due to the exploitation of raw materials, the production, the transport and the generation of waste. However, the life cycle analysis[1] of a pair of jeans shows that the main environmental impact occurs during its use phase[2]. Therefore, the number of times jeans are worn before being washed, the washing temperature, the use of detergents, the machine-drying and the ironing constitute many crucial steps. We also shouldn’t forget that a well maintained garment will last longer, thus generating less waste!

Building upon these findings, the UNEP Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (UNEP DTIE) decided to produce a TV spot, unique in its message and its approach. It features a couple dancing Tecktonik – a trendy movement in France, which is currently spreading in many countries – in a typical urban environment. Split-screens, powerful messages, catchy music (“Am I wrong” from Etienne de Crécy) aim to sensitize young people to ecological tips in an original way. “We wanted to find a way to make our environmental messages more accessible to young people. Hence our decision to present something positive and engaging that will hopefully prompt young people to take action rather than leaving them feeling helpless”, states Mr. Robert Bisset, Head of Communications at UNEP DTIE.

Clear, concise and relevant tips are highlighted throughout the TV spot: wear your jeans at least 3 times, wash them in cold water, don’t use the dryer, forget the iron, it is 5 times less wasted energy! As the UNEP slogan says: “The world is your home. Look after it.”

Sugar Cane Jeans, Smoulder…

Sugar Cane Jeans, Smoulder... Eco-friendly jeans just got a whole lot more sexier. Sugar Cane Jeans are known as the original eco-denim if not the original eco-brand and now they are taking it to the next level and saying just because we’re green doesn’t mean we can’t be sexy. Sugar Cane jeans prove having a conscience is more than just being green!
