Marc Jacobs – the physical transformation

Questions have been bouncing around on the kitmeout forum for years regarding Marc Jacobs physical transformation. Take a butchers here.

The question is whether it’s photoshop & photography or something more: “Retouched quite a bit, all the pores and unwanted hairs are removed just to mention something. Also, direct flash is avoided by most to get more texture and depth, with those however it’s been used anyway so shadows have been added after (on the pink one that is, but there’s been some work done in the other too).”

Heterophobia – addressing a controversial mannequin

heterophobia

Does the dominance of gay fashion designers suggest an endemic heterophobic propensity by the fashion illuminati which is manifest in its most insidious form by the pervasive tendency to corrupt the female body image by persisting with anorexic “de-feminised” models as a paradigm of perfection ultimately undermining the male/female synergy? … or perhaps the fashion illuninati are simply a pawn in the plan for androgenous evolution.

Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy for Dior

Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy for Dior

With rumors about Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy leaving Louis Vuitton for Dior, Duffy gave a nod and a wink:

“Marc definitely learned his craft and become an amazing technician. He could do a couture line.”

On a side note, Jacobs credits Duffy with saving him from drug addiction.

“On a personal level, Robert probably cares about me more than anyone in my entire life — about my well-being as well as my ability to perform as a designer. He literally saved my life. As soon as he realized [my heroin addiction in 1999] he said, “I’m not going to sit back and watch you kill yourself.”

Duffy is no stranger to controversy and earlier this year he was sued by one of Marc Jacob’s ex-employees. Patrice Lataillade, a former Marc Jacobs executive, filed a lawsuit against company president Robert Duffy, alleging violations of state and city laws based on charges of sexual discrimination.

The world of high fashion is about as capricious as it gets.

Marc Jacobs to Dior? Galliano for Louis Vuitton…

Marc Jacobs to Dior? Galliano for Louis Vuitton...

According to sources close to WWD, Dior is in talks with Marc Jacobs about becoming the new couturier of the French house. Dior has been without a creative leader since the loss of John Galliano in the wake of allegations of racism. Such a move would unseat Jacobs from Louis Vuitton, the cash-cow brand at LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton — and possibly set in motion a reshuffling at the French luxury giant. Who knows, perhaps Galliano will go the other way…

How Marc Jacobs Came to Strip Down and Grease Up to Sell Bang!

“Robert and I work closely with Coty on these projects, and he said, ‘Marc, you look so great now — you should be the model for men’s fragrance.’ My immediate reaction was, I don’t know. But then I came to see that it made sense … Once I agreed to be the model, I couldn’t see what I would wear to express this. We tried it with clothes, but it didn’t work. Then Juergen [Teller, who shot the campaign] had the idea for the silver Mylar, and it all came together. The silver Mylar also gives it that flash, that bang … As a word, it has so many connotations, including a sexual connotation.” —Marc Jacobs.

Marc Jacobs sues Christian Audigier

Marc Jacobs sues Christian Audigier

Marc Jacobs is the quintessential no-nonsense fashion designers and this is further substantiated by his decision to wrap Christian Audigier in a legal guillotine choke. Audigier’s Nervous Tattoo, Inc is being sued by Marc Jacob’s for trademark infringement over a purse design. You just have to admire Marc’s balls! So the big question is, who will Christian piss off next?

Marc Jacobs bag x peSeta

Marc Jacobs bag x peSetafinally, the ukelele bag, our latest collaboration with Marc Jacobs, can be seen at his website and has arrived to the U.S., London and Paris boutiques…

This is the third exclusive series we’ve had the pleasure to design especially for Marc Jacobs. In Spring 2008 we did the bolsaco totebag and in Fall 2008 it was the passport holder.

The bag is really light but the materials are rough and tough: inside-out denim and a super cotton (called “espiga” around here), made using a traditional loom… spanish style, the old fashioned way… The lining has classic squares and stripes (with two color options: red and blue), and there are four useful pockets.

Marc Jacobs bag x peSeta

It´s a bag for boys and girls. Treating this ukelele bag with love means folkin´ daily use, wild nite “giving-it-all” and massive world (or neighbourhood) tours.

The ukelele bag will be available at the Marc by Marc Jacobs shops in the U.S., Paris (19, place du Marché Saint-Honoré) and London (24-25 Mount St).

aprox. measurements: 56x25x17 cm.
price: $98. £88

peSeta® is a small company from Madrid, Spain, and basically we try to do nice stuff out of fabric. we collect fabrics from all over the world and make limited series of bags and more… they´re all full of little details and different from the previous and there are several ways to wear it; plus, we´ve started producing collections following the traditional fashion calendar (the first one will be for F/W09) and we also love doing collaborations with other brands. the last one was the one i wanted to introduce to you this time.

The passport case was made thinking about people travelling all around the world but also living the city day-to-day. Any passport from any country can fit in, as well as other documents, like driving licenses, credit cards… whatever… there´s also a velcro pocket so can keep some money. The pigs design was chosen by Marc Jacobs, who fell in love with it when they visited Peseta in Madrid.

Marc Jacobs – Designer of the Year!

Marc Jacobs - Designer of the Year! Manic Marc Jacobs, the man of the blue rinse, won the “Designer of the Year” award at the 11th Annual ACE Awards in New York. No matter what people think of the man, he is a true fashion icon and a credit to his trade if not, regrettably, to the rest of the world. Marc Jacobs is destined to keep designing and winning and generally giving people the hump, so good luck to the gayzer and his fabulous accessories!

Marc Jacobs T-Shirt + Owen Marvel

Marc Jacobs T-Shirt + Owen Marvel WWD NEWS: “Flesh will be the theme at Marc by Marc Jacobs this weekend. The men’s store at 382 Bleecker Street in Manhattan will feature unclothed staffers Andrew Weyer, Kyle Avila, Chico Clark and Owen Marvel signing and selling T-shirts of themselves to benefit the New York University School of Medicine, Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group. The four men won’t be totally nude, but are expected to cover their private parts in some way, perhaps with the T-shirts. “They compete with each other about who can sell the most T-shirts,” Marc Jacobs’ business partner, Robert Duffy, said. “So I said, ‘why not autograph them and appear naked on Saturday,’ and they just said, ‘OK.'”

Duffy and Jacobs were inspired to reprint most of the T-shirts from their 2006 initiative after being honored at the NYU Cancer Institute Gala earlier this month. The duo is also adding new ones featuring Heidi Klum, Helena Christensen, Alison Lohman and Joss Stone. Duffy hopes to raise about $500,000 with this new batch of $35 T-shirts, which will also go out to other Marc by Marc Jacobs stores worldwide.

Nudity, of course, is becoming quite a theme with Jacobs, who recently showed much skin in magazines like W, Out and Visionaire.

“This [initiative] started a long time ago, but Marc’s personal nudity is just a recent phenomenon,” Duffy said. “It’s interesting that he didn’t pose [for the T-shirt] this year. I think he’s overexposed.”
