CHRISTOPHER BAILEY SPEAKS AT PRESTIGIOUS OXFORD UNIVERSITY

Christopher Bailey, Burberry Chief Creative Officer, spoke at the Oxford Union last night, one of Britain’s oldest and most prestigious debating societies.

Having gained a worldwide reputation for its debates, the Oxford Union has a long history of hosting international figures such as Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and former US Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.

In conversation with an audience of 450 students, Christopher shared personal and professional experiences from his upbringing in Yorkshire to his career at Burberry, where he joined 10 years ago.

In his role as Chief Creative Officer of Burberry, Christopher Bailey is responsible for the design of all Burberry collections and products, as well as all advertising, corporate art direction, architectural design, multi-media content and overall brand image for Burberry.

Burberry Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey hosted an evening event in Mumbai to celebrate the brand’s presence in India last night.

The event on the roof terrace of the Four Seasons Hotel was attended by over 400 guests including Burberry Chief Executive Angela Ahrendts, Dev Patel, Sanjay Kapoor, Ajay Devgan, Asin, Preity Zinta, Kangana Ranaut, Dino Morea, Lisa Haydon, Rahul Khanna (all of whom wore Burberry).
Music at the event included DJ sets by British musician Rory Cottam from band The Cheek and Indian DJ Aqeel as well as a live acoustic performance by Indian musicians Aman and Aayan Ali Khan.

The event also marks Christopher Bailey’s first trip to India, a key market for the brand’s global retail expansion strategy in underpenetrated markets.

Burberry currently has four stores in India – Emporio Mall in New Delhi, UB City Mall in Bangalore, Taj Krishna hotel in Hyderabad and a 400 square metre flagship store within Palladium Mall in Mumbai which opened in May 2010.

A fifth Burberry store in India is scheduled to open in December 2010 within the Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi.

London, 3 May 2010 – Burberry Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey hosted the Burberry table at the Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York tonight.

Guests at the table included British actors Emma Watson, Hugh Dancy and Daniel Craig, British model Rosie Huntington Whiteley, actress Claire Danes and photographer Mario Testino.

CHRISTOPHER BAILEY WINS DESIGNER of the year AT BRITISH FASHION AWARDS 2009

London, 10 December 2009 – Burberry Chief Creative Officer won the Designer of the Year Award at the British Fashion Awards last night. The award was presented by Victoria Beckham.
Burberry also won the Brand of the Year award at the ceremony held at The Royal Courts of Justice in London.

Christopher Bailey announced that Burberry will continue to show its Burberry Prorsum womenswear show during London Fashion Week, when collecting the award.

“I am extremely pleased to announce that the Burberry Prorsum womenswear show will stay in London again this season and will be held during London Fashion Week in February. There was such an incredible energy during the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week last September and we were very proud to be a part of this momentous celebration. London is our home and our global headquarters and we are thrilled to be showing again in this, our magnificent and creative city.”

Christopher Bailey has previously been recognised at the British Fashion Awards with the Menswear Designer of the Year award in 2008 and 2007 and with the Designer of the Year award in 2005.

Last week Christopher Bailey collected his MBE from Buckingham Palace in London having been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen Elizabeth II Birthday 2009 Honours List in June 2009 for his services to the Fashion Industry.

In his role as Chief Creative Officer of Burberry, Christopher Bailey is responsible for the design of all Burberry collections and products, as well as all advertising, corporate art direction, architectural design, multi-media content and overall brand image for Burberry.

Burberry has a history of supporting British arts and creativity and continues to invest and develop British talent through a number of initiatives including the Burberry Foundation founded by Burberry Chief Executive Angela Ahrendts and Christopher Bailey in 2008.

London, 4 December 2009 – Christopher Bailey, Burberry Chief Creative Officer, collected his MBE from Buckingham Palace in London.

Christopher was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in Queen Elizabeth II’s Birthday 2009 Honours List in June 2009 for his services to the Fashion Industry.

Earlier this week, Christopher also became an Honorary Patron of Dublin’s Trinity College’s Philosophical Society. The Philosophical Society has been a forum for the discussion of artistic and aesthetic ideas for over three centuries.

The recognitions follow Christopher’s honorary fellowship in 2003 from the Royal College of Art, where he graduated from with an MA in 1994, an honorary doctorate in 2006 from the University of Westminster, where he graduated from with a Bachelor of Arts in 1990 and an honorary doctorate of Science for his contribution to the Arts by the University of Huddersfield in Yorkshire in 2007.

In his role as Chief Creative Officer of Burberry, Christopher Bailey is responsible for the design of all Burberry collections and products, as well as all advertising, corporate art direction, architectural design, multi-media content and overall brand image for Burberry.

Christopher also recently oversaw the design and development of the new 160,000 square foot Burberry Global Headquarters at Horseferry House in London, the newly opened 68,000 square foot Burberry Americas Headquarters at 444 Madison in New York and the new Burberry Headquarters in Ginza, Tokyo in Japan.

In 2008 Christopher Bailey and Burberry Chief Executive Angela Ahrendts, set up the Burberry Foundation committed to dedicating global resources to help young people realise their dreams and achieve their goals and potential through the power of their creativity.

Christopher Bailey was appointed Chief Creative Officer of Burberry in November 2009, a newly created position in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the brand since his appointment at Burberry as Creative Director in May 2001.

Christopher Bailey, 38, is British and was born in Yorkshire.

British actor Ed Westwick and Barneys hosted an event in honour of Burberry Creative Director Christopher Bailey at the Barneys store in New York tonight.

Over 200 guests attended the cocktail event on the men’s floor at Barneys, including Christopher Bailey, Ed Westwick, Mary Kate Olsen, Simon Doonan, Amy Sacco, Celerie Kemble, Tara Subkoff, Jamie Burke, Leigh Lezark, Max Minghella, Byrdie Bell, Dani Stahl, Lydia Fenet, Polly Delevinge, Maggie Bettz, Katie Lee Joel, Emma Snowdon Jones, Zanna Roberts and Derek Blasberg all of whom wore Burberry

Music on the evening was provided by DJ Nate Lowman.

The event also celebrated the arrival of the new Burberry Prorsum Spring Summer 2009 menswear collection in store. The collection references classic pieces from the Burberry archive and heritage in a modern, unstructured and effortless way.

Burberry is pleased to be celebrating its rich heritage in providing sartorial menswear and outerwear dating from the company’s foundation in 1856.
