Fashion Diffusion Line

Here’s an interesting thread on the Kitmeout Fashion Forum about Diffusion Lines? Take a butchers:

“diffusion lines can have merit if they are executed correctly. firstly the brand has to make sure they market the diffusion line correctly to their target audience. at the same time they need to make sure they do not alienate their mainline audience or devalue the overall brand. ultimately, the price-point of the diffusion line needs to make sense to the new potential buyer. in the end the diffusion line needs to be very distinct from the mainline yet it must also be clearly related. a difficult and rarely achieved balance.”

Man Skirts, Twirl into 2014

Over the years there’s been plenty of speculation that “man skirts” would hit the main stream with a whacking right hook. Could 2014 be the year of the man skirt. To quote “The Wales in Union” Haiku: Scotchmen wear dresses, Englishmen Pomposity, Ulsterian green! Perhaps that provides the answer to why men don’t wear skirts.

Take a butchers at a thread from the Kitmeout forum:

“Nope, not even a sarong when I stayed in SE-Asia… Though the dudes there wear sarongs all year round and it fits the climate. Man-skirts as the one on the pic are foul… I mean it’s again back to the discussion about guys wearing their girlfriends clothes to follow a trend… Not cool… ” Read more >

Evisu Jeans resurrected?

There’s been plenty of chatter about Evisu on the Kitmeout forum over the years. Kitmeout was the first official store online to offer Evisu back in 2000. The Evisu brand has been up and down over the years and it looks like the brand is on the up at the moment. Here’s a chat from back in 2007 about Evisu in Europe. Read it here>

“Evisu jeans are marketed by a company called Four Marketing. FM also market / own the license to some brands aswell, the brands include : CP Company, Stone Island, SI Denims, Fake London Genius, Evisu, one of the alexander mcqueen lines………..and some others.”

Duffer St George to KU USA

A discussion including Duffer St George, KU USA, Luke 1977, Momotaro and Ed Hardy.

“yes, duffer had a store in london. he wanted exclusive which i gave him. then he didnt come to our stand one season, so i assumed he was moving on. i then sold to jones in covent garden (now gone). at that point, duffer did not pay me for my last shipment to them.

currently ku is only available in japan and at our store in los angeles. togged also carries some. we make 108 pcs only of everything so we sell out in our markets. i dont feel like building a big manufacturing/shipping company. i want to focus more on interior design and hand crafted items, some of which may be clothing.

ku started the ed hardy brand, and then we licensed it out. ”

DJ Campbell, the Red Monkey model, is embroiled in a match-fixing allegations. Dudley Junior “D. J.” Campbell, who now plays for Championship side Blackburn, was one of six people arrested on Sunday. Ede & Ravenscroft

Here’s a thread on the Kitmeout Forum worth a butchers: Ede & Ravenscroft

“oldest fashion brand? i know this has been discussed on kitmeout before but could Ede & Ravenscroft be the oldest?

Ede & Ravenscroft, the British tailoring business founded in 1689, has received a fourth royal warrant. For 320 years Ede & Ravenscroft has upheld its reputation as tailors of distinction, commissioning robes for all occasions, including coronations, judiciary and graduation.

The tailor held three royal warrants as robe makers to Queen Elizabeth II, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales however the newest warrant will be incorporated into the existing one from the Queen for tailoring services.

Philip Thomas, director of tailoring at Ede & Ravenscroft said: “We are proud to have been granted a Royal Warrant from Her Majesty the Queen for tailoring and to continue our heritage of providing the highest levels of craftsmanship.”

Thought to be the oldest tailor in the world, Ede and Ravenscroft also offer men’s and women’s attire, such as weekend wear, formal wear, accessories, bespoke and personal tailoring.”

Evisu Jeans No.0

Nice thread here on the forum about Evisu Jeans – take a butchers, visit here >

The Japanese line has 3-4 basic standard lines of denim quality and is denoted by a number on the patch. so No.0, No.1, No.2 and No.3. 0 being the highest in quality and price and 3 being the lowest in quality and price.

No.0 – It’s like a evisu prototype denim, seems very rare/limited and is meant to be more irregular and textured than the no1. Really no one knows much about it.

No.1 – 14.5oz. selvedge and made in japan. high quality and is not pre-shrunk (unsanforised), is slightly darker than no.2.

No.2 -14.5oz selvedge and made in japan. high quality but may be not as dark or seen as good quality as No.1 and is preshrunk (sanforised)

No.3 – mass produced outside of Japan in CHINA. medium grade quality and not selvedge. (sanforised)

Vegan Shoes by NOHARM

NOHARM, the Vegan Shoe brand, which first promoted the link between vegan footwear and the environment is modeled here by Richie Kull. The brand is worth a butchers here at NOHARM.COM

Part of the NOHARM environmental pitch, goes:

“Senior U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization official Henning Steinfeld reported that the meat industry is “one of the most significant contributors to today’s most serious environmental problems.”

Carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide together cause the vast majority of global warming. Raising animals for food (AND LEATHER) is one of the largest sources of carbon dioxide and the single largest source of both methane and nitrous oxide emissions.”

Compelling proposition!

Crooks & Castles – Brand of the Week

Crooks & Castles are worth a butchers out of the peripheral vision at least.

Added to the brands section of the Kitmeout forum here > a while back

Taste of their marketing angle goes:

“From the robber barons of the early times like the vanderbilts, the rockefellers, the carnegies to the modern day billionaires – Bill Gates & Microsoft. Those who stopped at nothing to get their “Castle”. We too hope one day to be the next rich crook. In some of our designs you might see a familiar icon or logo that we took (stole) and gave it our own twist. We felt that some high fashion brands only catered to someone in a certain lifestyle or with a rather large bank account. Therefore we took what they made and crafted it to fit ours.”

Nice!

Criticism and Men in the Fashion World

An interesting chin-wag here on the Kitmeout forum. Opening post:

“Got a question for you. I been noticing that I am getting a lot of criticism from friends and what not about me taking a path into the fashion industry. We all know that men in the fashion industry are stereotyped in some shape or form by outsiders. When ever I talk about a designer or some idea that I may have someone attempts to belittle me. Even though I can’t care less with what they think, I just wonder does it ever stop? After you make a name for yourself in the industry or by simply having a good job doing what you love. I also wonder how often does it happen to you other guys even if you aren’t trying to leave your mark as a designer?”

TK AND TJ MAXX

The question was asked on the Kitmeout forum: what’s the difference between TJ Maxx & TK Maxx? And what does TJ and TK stand for? The answer was deflating:

Thank you for contacting T.J. Maxx Customer Service.

While we would like to provide you with some kind of story or anecdote regarding the names, we can not. Thanks to a great Marketing team who liked the way T.J.Maxx sounded, the name stuck. As far as T.K. Maxx goes, they wanted a name that was similar to T.J. Maxx that people could identify with. However, because they are two separate chains, the names had to be slightly different.

Stone Island Jacket R.I.P.

Back in 2005 there was a thread on the Kitmeout forum which proposed Stone Island R.I.P. Take a butchers at the thread here.

This was the period when Burberry was at the height of its chav fame, the days before the American from Indianapolis, Angela Ahrendts, pulled Burberry away from the brink.

History has proven the question over Stone Island’s longevity was inaccurate and that the fashion visionary Massimo Osti’s legacy was far greater than the pigeon hole people were trying to put Stone Island into. The brand has gone from strength to strength and deservedly so.

Is manorexia for real or just a media driven phenomenon?

The debate was sparked on the Kitmeout Fashion Forum about Manorexia a few years ago. Is it a real phenomenon today?

Is manorexia for real or just a media driven phenomenon?

Following the decision to ban size zero female models from the catwalk, Clothes Show Live is taking a stance against skinny male models too. The fashion and beauty event viewed over 250 potential male and female models at a recent casting and won’t be working with unnaturally thing models. The decision has been made as part of an ongoing commitment to promote a healthy body images and responsibility within the fashion industry.

The move follows reports that the number of men treated for anorexia – or “manorexia” has increased by 67% in the past five years. This rise has been attributed to the fashion industry’s increasing preference for very slender male models; as well as to the popularity of celebrities such as Russell Brand, Johnny Borrell and Pete Doherty who have made the boyish male physique fashionable within the younger male population.

Men’s Sixty Jeans

There’s been a bunch of chatter over the years concerning fashion brands and gender association. We’ve all laughed at poor old Juicy Couture making pathetic attempts to break into the menswear market and the list goes on. One that slipped on the radar was The Sixty Group’s attempt to offer a men’s version of Miss Sixty which was called Sixty Jeans. Take a butchers at the chatter here on the forum >

Brands need to be smarter from the start and understand that the foundation they lay in terms of gender will be neigh impossible to reverse. Stay Juicy ’til you’re Sixty? It ain’t gonna happen!

Karl Lagerfeld Gloves

Karl Lagerfeld loves his gloves, so what’s the story with Karl being kitted out in turtle doves day and night? Some rumours say he thinks gloves make his arms look longer which in France is a sign of influence. That might be the case in France, Mate, but in the rest of the world it means you look like a primate. Come on Karl get the turtle doves off and let us see your wrinkly little mitts. Listen we’re all too busy chuckling at your hair to be concerned about your grubbies.

Counterfeit Clothing

There have been a long list on conversations on the Kitmeout forum concerning counterfeit clothing. Here’s one, take a butchers:

“what’s your view on counterfeiting. i have read some posts here that say you were the owner of ed hardy so you must hate fakes with a passion.”

Mister Freedom Clothing

Mister Freedom has had plenty of posts on the Kitmeout forum over the years. His customisations of Sugar Cane garments are almost legendary. This is one of many chatter points about Mister Freedom: See Here >

Oldest Japanese Denim Brand

The question was asked – take a butchers at the thread, includes:

“Interesting topic, I called the European distributors of Sugar Cane jeans and they confirm that Sugar Cane jeans first produced their jean in 1975. did further research on the other Japanese brands and 45rpm started in 1978. so does any one have any dates for Edwin or others.”

The conclusion was Edwin jeans. Is there any older brand?

Organic Fashion

Take a butchers at the debate on “organic Fashion” at the Kitmeout Forum:

“Because The Industry Is So Nascent There Are No Real Standards. Sugar Cane Have A History Of Producing Denim Made With Fibres Which Are Apparently Less Harmful To The Environment. A Lot Of The Other Brands Are Just Seeing An Opportunity To Make Hard Cash.”

Vivienne Westwood Menswear

The question was asked on the Kitmeout forum:

“I am a big Vivienne Westwood fan. How many men here buy Vivienne Westwood menswear? Do most people still see it as a ladies brand?
Does Vivienne Westwood have the same problem as Juicy Couture appealing to the menswear market? ”

Take a butchers at the full thread here – see more

To my mind Vivienne Westwood doesn’t have a problem in the menswear market. Viv’s connection to the Sex Pistols will always ensure her brand has a macho edge. I think her nigger problem is convincing punters of her ethical credentials which she’s being attempt to tout over the past few years.

Worst Designer Jeans on the Planet?

The question was asked on the Kitmeout Fashion Forum: “What are the worst jeans on the planet?”. Take a butchers to see whether your choice is mentioned. View Here >

One opinion shared is: “for me it has to be Joykeep Jeans (or Jkeep). They make the worst knockoff versions of brand name labels like Levi’s. These knockoffs often have altered logos (Joykeep label are missing the two horses), riddled with spelling errors (button misspelled Baisc instead of Basic) and often poor quality material.”
