The Street Aesthetic of Berlin

A film by Christian Andersen

After the huge attention and feedback I received for the video ‘The Street Aesthetic of New York’, I decided to continue the series and create a new video based on the very cultural and urban city Berlin. The Street Aesthetic of Berlin is the second video in the series, capturing the culture and everyday life of native Berliners. In this short-film I also tried to capture the special urban vibe Berlin have and visualize the aesthetic of Berlin’s street corners, parks, buildings and structure.

EVISU 20th Anniversary “Make the Rules”Matzu for EVISU

As most people know, Kitmeout was the first site in the world to offer Evisu Jeans and Clothing online. Back in 2000, Kitmeout was selling an array of Evisu Jeans including the Millennium Edition. Matsu for EVISU limited edition jeans will be launched in A/W12.

EL MAC IN THE MONTANA COLORS FACTORY

Take a butchers at this image-roller:

“As you know, EL MAC was in our factory in Barcelona, doing a mural. Here’s the video of the process which the directors of Popcranc did, with the support of Offf Festival and Montana Colors.

In the words of the directors themselves: “From the very start, when we had the opportunity to speak with Mac and find out more about his work, we decided to center the video idea, not on the mural process, but on the style and inspiration of the author. The suggestive image of the girl which he painted really reminded us of Andy Warhol’s screen tests, and the simple details characteristic of Jean-Luc Godard’s Anna Karina. So we threw ourselves into the project, playing with that inspiration. The main thing was to use the dramatic combination of black and white, just as Mac did with his piece. We had a great time during the whole process with Mac, Ari, and Kim, and hope that they’ll come back to Barcelona soon. Many thanks to Montana for the opportunity!”

Puma – Eco Friendly Trainers and Clothing

PUMA is following the NOHARM lead further by producing clothes and trainers that are compostable. PUMA’s CEO Franz Koch told the German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche:

“We are confident that in the near future we will be able to bring the first shoes, T-shirts and bags, that are either compostable or recyclable, to the market. It follows two circuits, the technical and the biological: I can use old shoes to make new ones or something completely different, such as car tyres. In the biological cycle, I can make shoes and shirts that are compostable so I can shred them and bury them in the back garden. We are working on products that meet these two criteria.”

PUMAGILITY “Footprints” Commercial

PUMA introduces PUMAGILITY but know this is not your average trainer. It’s reinforced with a stable design that doesn’t compromise on comfort and flex. How’d we do it? We used super lightweight foam shapes that compress on impact (ahem, flexibility aplenty) and widen the base (cue maximum stability). We even threw in a few flex grooves for enhanced, smooth side-to-side movement while training. Put it all together and you get a shoe that not only moves with you, it moves for you—now get going. In PUMA’s new commercial to launch PUMAGILITY, we get a glimpse of a young runner’s journey through the city with his new PUMAGILITY shoes, demonstrating how he gets moving. PUMAGILITY offers stability and flexibility for all your cross training needs.

Yohji Yamamoto gets personal

Yohji Yamamoto gets personal.

“I was wearing a rock ‘n’ roll T-shirt and black trousers when I first decided to be a fashion designer because I didn’t want to disturb people’s eyes,” he said in his soon-to-be-released documentary, This Is My Dream. “Colour disturbs people. I am confident in black, not in light. This dark side of life is attractive to me forever and from the beginnings. I am a lazy designer when it comes to colour. The body is the important thing to me – it is the beginning of my work.”

Yohji Yamamoto

he goes on…

“No one in the world looks the same and no woman has the same body,” he explained. “I can keep working because the woman’s body is always mysterious. Dress-making doesn’t ever lie because cannot lie – they show everything.”

Pure Gold Tie

True luxury has only one color – gold. A nanometer-thin layer of pure gold now lends ties and pocket handkerchiefs that authentic gold sheen, thanks to a new Empa-developed process. The yarn, which is coated using a high-tech plasma process, is soft and easy to weave. It is also washing machine compatible. A limited number of gold ties will be placed on the market before Christmas, making a truly exclusive present. Further fashion accessories will follow in 2012.

Pure Gold Tie

Gold radiates with a violet hue, at least when it is sprayed onto a surface atom by atom, as can be seen by looking into a plasma coating plant when in operation. This particular plant, which is about as large as a household refrigerator, can be found on the premises of the Tersuisse spinning mill in Emmen. Inside the apparatus a piece of gold is bombarded with fast moving argon ions which knock atoms off the metal surface. These gold atoms fly off and land on a polyester fiber which is slowly pulled through the machine. This is the beginning of the production process which for the first time in the world creates a textile material permanently coated with a durable layer of gold. The precious metal remains attached to the fiber even when it is rolled, kinked, woven in a loom and given a final wash.

Designer Gas Masks – Sweet Irony

Can the irony be more poignant. A a designer gas mask to save us from environmental catastrophe! You have to laugh.

Designer Gas Masks - Sweet Irony

A series of designer gas masks by conceptual artist Diddo Velema explores the psychological comfort we derive from high-end goods in the face of imminent disaster. Decked in the iconic logos of Chanel, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton, the masks offer a critique of our “collectively insatiable culture of consumption,” according to Velema. “Because it is only by first acknowledging and then challenging fear that we will all be able to breathe a little easier,” he adds.

Burberry, from Chav to Depraved?

New Burberry Despoke, from Chav to Depraved! Burberry now allows visitors to customise their trench coats with MINK linings and shearling collars. Burberry’s continued glorification of fur could be its next big headache as the brand migrates back to the bad old days of putting financial gain before its soul. Over the past decade we have reported on some of Burberry’s misadventures and then Angela Ahrendts came along and saved the great British brand. Now we fear she maybe taking them down road where fashion meets the blood of Smithfields!

Burberry, from Chav to Depraved?

Burberry Report 1

Burberry Report 2

Burberry Report 3

“Down the road, we’ll get into made-to-measure,” says Burberry’s chief executive, Angela Ahrendts. Burberry Bespoke is “the next evolution” for the brand and an indication of where the luxury sector is headed, she says. The customisation program will expand to include other products and options, she says.

“Honestly it makes no difference at all” how many custom coats Burberry sells, Ms. Ahrendts says. “It’s customer engagement. You want them to engage with the brand.”.

It’s starting to sound like the old Burberry Chav days when all that matters is sales at the expensive of the company’s soul.

A Year in New York

Andrew Clancy does a year in the Big Apple in film. Take a butchers:

Living in New York I’d grab my Canon 7D, or S95, and shoot footage of what was going on around me. It seemed like a never ending project and you could stay filming life in New York for a long time. But eventually I put my camera down and started to edit. Here’s the end result, it’s a bit rough and ready but that’s life in the Big Apple I guess.

Levi’s and Adidas try Eco-Friendly “Better Cotton”

What is BCI? Well, The Better Cotton Initiative exists in order to respond to the current impacts of cotton production worldwide. BCI aims to promote measurable improvements in the key environmental and social impacts of cotton cultivation worldwide to make it more economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable. Since 2005, the BCI has been working with organisations from across the cotton supply chain and interested stakeholders to facilitate a solution for the mainstream cotton sector. The BCI’s philosophy is to develop a market for a new mainstream commodity: ‘Better Cotton’ and thereby transform the cotton commodity to bring long-term benefits for the environment, farmers and other people dependent on cotton for their livelihood.

adidas eco-friendly

Retailers such as Levi’s, Adidas, H&M and Marks & Spencer are giving it a bash. Momentum for the project has been driven in large part by the Better Cotton Initiative, a nonprofit launched in 2005 to reduce the environmental, social, economic impacts of cotton farming. The Geneva-based organization includes a wide range of stakeholders, from farmers and textile mills to retailers and nonprofits.
