Bikkembergs Capitano Football Boots

Bikkembergs Capitano

In 2006, Dirk Bikkembergs introduced its first designer professional football boot. Two years later, the Tirosegno raised the bar.

Come 2010, after two years of extensive research, development and testing on the pitch, the Capitano takes to the spotlight and sets new standards in football boot design and performance.

With the Bikkembergs Capitano, Dirk Bikkembergs introduces the ultimate merger of passion and performance. This third-generation designer football boot combines an innovative boot construction wrapped in striking design.

With the debut of the Bikkembergs Capitano, Dirk Bikkembergs raises the bar in performance football boots.

This third-generation designer football boot follows in the wake of its successful predecessors, the Bix and the Tirosegno, and exceeds the demands on the pitch without fail.

An innovative boot construction is wrapped in stunning design, making for a professional boot that oozes Italian craftsmanship and flair. The Bikkembergs Capitano, the ultimate merger of passion and performance.

The Bikkembergs Capitano introduces an innovative sole construction in two separate parts, a front part and a heel part. These two parts offer stability, as well as more flexibility, since the boot perfectly follows the motions of the foot. The sole construction can be seen in the micro-fibre upper, which continuous underneath the centre of the boot.

The Bikkembergs Capitano is available in a soft ground and hard ground version – the former with screw-in metal studs, the latter with fixed bi-density polyurethane studs. Both versions offer excellent grip and manoeuvrability. The water-repellent micro-fibre upper with cross-stitching makes for a soft and light foot-hugging boot with excellent ball control.

The most striking feature of the Bikkembergs Capitano is the bright rubber strap that runs around the front of the boot, hinting at the captain’s armband. Both versions of the Bikkembergs Capitano are available in two colour combinations: black with a yellow strap, and white with a red strap. The Bikkembergs Capitano offers the ultimate merger of passion and performance.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2011

New York Fashion Week Spring 2011

Plans Unveiled for the First New York Fashion Season at Lincoln Center. IMG, producers of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week unveiled the plans for the first fashion season at Lincoln Center.

For those who had been following Fashion Week’s move to Lincoln Center for the past several years, then you already know that this is finally coming true after extensive work between City Hall, Lincoln Center, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), IMG and the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

“This is a very exciting day for us,” said Peter Levy, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of IMG Fashion Worldwide.

“The move has allowed IMG to reinvent and improve so many aspects of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week as well as develop a stronger link to the surrounding facilities and spaces available at Lincoln Center and the neighborhood. This is the first season in what we are confident will be a long ‘run’ at Lincoln Center.”

The move to Lincoln Center has allowed IMG Fashion to unveil event upgrades such as modernized production capabilities for designers, digital services concurrent with the advanced needs of the 21st Century, better accessibility for attendees through both public and private transportation and great resources/facilities on-site and in the surrounding areas.

These upgrades include; a gracious lobby to better accommodate designer guests, press and industry professionals; modified runway theaters and modular designer spaces that support advanced production capabilities; expanded lighting and digital design resources; new décor and increased venue/runway sizes and seating enhancements.

The event will continue to host three runway venues, and has added a fourth presentation space for designer presentations, industry forums, press conferences and other activities. The venue cost to each designer will remain the same as in previous seasons of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Lincoln Center allows a unique opportunity in the evolution of the event, offering expanded resources and facilities around campus for the use of designer, press, industry and consumer activities.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center is slated on 9 -16th September 2010.

New Balance x Undefeated Desert Storm 1500 Trainers

New Balance x Undefeated Desert Storm 1500 Trainers

The New Balance x Undefeated Desert Storm 1500 is a collaborative project that brings historical context to footwear and design. Undefeated has always been a military and sport inspired brand with efforts to not only provide authenticity to projects, but to also inform the public of the often overlooked and understated aspects of design.

The inspiration behind the New Balance Desert Storm 1500 is based upon military designs from the Gulf War. The light and dark brown panels with red and blue hits are colorways inspired from a Desert Storm operations patch. The premium suede fabrication of the shoe has been chosen to correspond with real army boots that were worn in the Gulf War. The chocolate chip camo, which is found on the shoe bed, interior lining, and shoe bag, is a specification to commemorate the design’s introduction in the Gulf War. 1500s feature embroidery detail on foxing and tongue of each shoe and collection call out on shoe insole.

Undefeated’s main objective is to have authenticity direct the project, while instilling history into the design. There is much excitement with the New Balance Desert Storm 1500’s as it will be Undefeated’s first collaboration with New Balance US.

Each pair of New Balance Desert Storm 1500s will be sold with a canvas shoe bag featuring utility camo print. The New Balance Desert Storm 1500 will be available beginning on May 1 for $120.00.

A.Hallucination Clothing

A.Hallucination Clothing

Launched during London Fashion Week in February, A.Hallucination menswear had already caught the attention of the fashion set with its darted slim-shaped side-seamless jackets, new cut shirts, low crotch pants and quilted jackets inspired from the Argyle check.

Designed by Chung Chung Lee and Hwan Sung Park, who are both graduates of Central Saint Martin College of Art & Design, the debut collection of A.Hallucination presented during Menswear Day of London Fashion Week Autumn 2010 season, is an interesting combination of modern and classic.

Entitled “The First Peal,” the collection was inspired by the scenery of London such as the London Eye with Big Ben and Gherkin. Fusing casual and formal elements, the collection features stylishly forward clothing with razor-sharp lines, sophisticated fabrics and a timeless fit.

Describing their collection, both Chung Chung Lee and Hwan Sung Park said, “We would like to show the new ‘modern English dandy’ through our first collection. We think the mix of classic fabrics and modern design and cutting represent the true London. It’s like how the Saint Paul Cathedral and Millennium Bridge goes very well together.”

Catering to the 18-40 age group, A.Hallucination presents a sharp contemporary take on the classic British dandy look with city wear influences and the styling offers a modern twist to a classic look.

Eco-friendly Footwear

Eco-friendly Footwear

Following in the footsteps of the NOHARM eco brand…

End-of-life issues are among the thorniest in sustainability, but two footwear players are taking it on. This spring, Waltham, Mass.-based Earth Footwear is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day with a spring ’10 launch of its biodegradable sole, which will be rolled out across the line. Joining athletic company Brooks and sneaker brand Simple, Earth will use an additive that helps outsoles biodegrade 10 times faster than a normal shoe. The additive is the newest environmentally oriented action from the brand, which already uses water-based adhesives, recycled PET linings and insole boards made of recycled milk cartons.

New York-based Anthony L&S footwear is launching three collections for men and boys under the Bob Marley name, many of which have a green twist. Shoes in the One Love collection feature recycled natural rubber foxing tape and recycled EVA in the outsole. The more aggressive Fashion collection will pair recycled crepe foxing with suedes, leather, canvas and nubucks. And the more casual Vulcanized collection uses the leather and suede on more skate-inspired sneaker looks. Targeted to specialty boutiques and mass-market retailers, the $30-to-$130 line will deliver in June and July.

Obey Clothing Pops Up in Manhattan

Obey Clothing Pops Up in Manhattan

May Day takes a brand new meaning to OBEY Clothing fans as the label launches a pop-up shop at 151 Orchard Street in Manhattan on Friday, April 30th, just in time for May Day.

Coinciding with Shepard Fairey’s May Day Art Show opening at Deitch Projects on May 1st, the temporary store will be open from Apr 30 – May 16, 2010.

The pop-up shop serves as both a clothing store and a visual narration of Fairey’s work to-date. Capturing the raw and rustic esthetic of the OBEY brand, the shop is designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia. Hand-stenciled vintage military jackets housed in shadow boxes and wood frame silk screens line the walls of the store.

There is a collection of custom spray paint cans, showcasing some of OBEY’s most famous iconography. A collage installation of black and white photos displaying plastered OBEY images from around the world is featured along one wall; transporting viewers to the time of a first OBEY sighting.

The store features a selection of 30 hand-stenciled (at Shepard Fairey’s studio) one-of-a-kind T-shirts, limited edition Pop-up Shop T-shirts and commemorative Shepard Fairey May Day T-shirts based on a fine art piece from his exhibition. The May Day T-shirt will also be available at shop.obeyclothing.com and at the ACE Hotel NYC.

Additionally, the store holds a hand-selected array of men’s and women’s OBEY clothing. The curated OBEY collection ranges from clean and classic styles to more forward design, including slouchy tanks, tie-dyes, light-weight double wovens, military inspired jackets, and a wide variety of denim.

Other notable products include OBEY Posse shirts and artist series shirts by poster artist Alan Forbes. More surprises are to be unveiled at the opening of the store. OBEY May Day Pop-Up Shop will be open April 30 through May 16th, 2010, weekdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Seven For All Mankind Launching Adler Line

Seven For All Mankind Launching Adler Line

Seven For All Mankind has turned to the world of interior design for its latest collaboration.

The VF Corp.-owned premium denim label next month will introduce the Jonathan Adler for Seven For All Mankind collection exclusively at its branded stores in the U.S.

The limited edition collection is broken down into three themes — Deluxe, Rustic and Pop — with a men’s and women’s look for each, giving the line a total of six jeans and six tops. The Deluxe items were designed for a casual beach lifestyle, while the Rustic segment relies on more modern, earthy looks. Pop looks use brighter colors and white contrast for a preppier look. The collection will retail for $90 to $210.

Susan Kellogg, president of VF’s contemporary brands coalition, said Seven looks to other fashion brands as well as the worlds of art and architecture when considering potential collaborations.

“We try to find people that really personify our brand,” she said. “We bring the denim expertise and they bring something completely divergent from what we do.”

In years past, the brand has collaborated with the likes of Zac Posen, Azzedine Alaïa and Pucci. Pairing up with Adler marks the first time the interior designer has gotten involved with fashion design and, likewise, the first time that Seven has collaborated with somebody outside fashion.

“It has been exciting to have the chance to extend our aesthetic into apparel, especially with Seven For All Mankind because we all know everyone needs jeans,” Adler said.

Kellogg said Adler’s playful design aesthetic and attention to detail made him an attractive partner, particularly when considering a collection being offered for summer.

“With Jonathan, he’s just clever and fun,” she said. “Those are all words that resonated with our team and with our brand….I think he lived up to all of our expectations. The whimsy he’s famous for came to everything he touched.”

The collection will launch on May 12 with a cocktail party hosted by Adler at Seven’s SoHo store. Special events will also be held at units in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas and Miami throughout the month. Each of the brand’s 30 stores in the U.S. will devote floor space near the entryways and window displays to marketing the collaboration for the month of May. Shoppers will also be able to pick up some of Adler’s tabletop accessories. via WWD

Sheryl Crow x Natural Resources Defense Council

Sheryl Crow x Natural Resources Defense Council

Sheryl Crow was honored by the Natural Resources Defense Council at its annual Forces for Nature fundraiser held at Pier 60 in New York. The musician, who embarked on a nationwide bus tour last summer to promote global warming, recalled her early 70s childhood wherein her parents encouraged her and her older sisters to respect the planet. As for her colleague Lyle Lovett, who performed several songs by request from the evening’s other honorees Empire State Building owners Anthony and Shelly Malkin, Crow couldn’t speak to his eco-friendly practices. “All I know is that he makes me laugh hysterically. There’s something energetic about that as well,” she said.

Vegan Shoes x NOHARM Shoes

Vegan Shoes x NOHARM Shoes

Europe has an historical relationship with well-cobbled men’s shoes, so it’s no surprise that the craftsmanship of the UK’s NOHARM is classic and uncompromising. Handcrafted in Italy under fair-labor conditions, certified by the Vegan Society as 100% cruelty-free and eco-conscious, the shoes look as amazing as their planet-saving efforts. Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide together cause the vast majority of global warming. Raising animals for food and fiber (leather, wool, etc.) is one of the largest sources of carbon dioxide and the single largest source of both methane and nitrous oxide emissions. Going leather-free has never been more urgent, but gentlemen need not compromise their style, thanks to companies like NOHARM. via Hint Magazine

The DEFINITIVE IJIN ITEM. The FOLDEDGE BACKSTRAP

The DEFINITIVE IJIN ITEM. The FOLDEDGE BACKSTRAP

Big Thanks to Phil over at Ijin.

Every now & again nostalgia strikes & reminds us mere mortals that memories are part of our make-up.
In 2003 Phil Ijin had a vision of the alternative indigo item, with strong reference to the On Ko Chi Shin mentality & subliminal critical path for approach to design:”Respect the Past & Create the New.”

A modern day classic was born in the form of a denim jean that has stood the test of time & which we should remind ourselves , looks as fresh today as it did more than 6 years ago. There is still an understated elegance to the silhouette of this leg which is cut from a single piece of folded denim & has survived the initial onslaught of copies ( Hugo Boss launched a complete denim line based on the signature Ijin model : Shame on you….) because of the numerous & intricate heritage details & the default original & highly technical cutting method that Phil Ijin invented in the Ijin Italian workshop.

A stalwart for maintaining a slightly edgy, left field stance, The Foldedge Backstrap has firmly set the standard for contemporary 5 pocket denim & ranks as one of the true new Classics of the last decade, whilst still looking as fresh faced as ever in 2010.

UKFT supports TICT

UKFT supports TICT

UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT) will support the Textile Industry Children’s Trust (TICT), a specialist trade charity that helps children at risk. Founded in 1853 to ‘cloth, maintain and educate the children of warehousemen, clerks and agents of the textile industry’, the charity has expanded its work to include children (from birth to 18 years) of parents who work in UK fashion retailing and manufacturing as well as textiles.

TICT is looking to award grants to the value of £310,000 this year and increase this amount by 10 per cent every year. According to TICT’s new director, Anna Pangbourne, the children it helps could be at risk through bereavement, domestic conflict, disability, physical or emotional needs, or a parent who is drug or alcohol dependent.

“TICT can act as a safety net to ensure that a child can complete its education successfully during a critical phase. We may also support gifted and talented children with a specialist education or award hardship grants to cover the cost of uniforms, specialist equipment, such as a home computer, or provide funding towards transport to a school,” says Anna Pangbourne.

The initiative is embarking on a revitalisation programme and the charity is launching its first significant fund-raising campaign for many years – a mobile phone recycling campaign. Aimed primarily at retail head office staff, Arcadia and John Lewis are already supporting the initiative, however, suppliers and brands can participate too.

TICT is chaired by fashion industry veteran David Carter-Johnson and other voluntary trustees include Chairman of the Development Committee David Shepherd, Top Man; Nikki Zamblera, Debenhams; Jill Little, John Lewis and Nayna McIntosh, Marks & Spencer. They follow the footsteps of renowned people involved in TICT including Prince of Wales and Charles Dickens was the Chairman of Appeal in 1856 and 1857.

Rock & Republic files for Chapter 11

Rock & Republic files for Chapter 11
Premium denim company Rock & Republic has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the USA.

The Los Angeles based fashion brand, whose products are sold in upscale department stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom as well as specialty retailers and its own free-standing stores, said the filing would ease pressure on its balance sheet. The company is not ceasing operations, and is set to keep trading.

“The Chapter 11 filing is a strategic action that will alleviate balance sheet burdens and enable us to adopt the financial and operational initiatives needed to support the brand’s growth needs,” said Geoffrey D. Lurie, the privately held company’s newly named chief restructuring officer. “We are confident that this is the right move for Rock & Republic.”

Lurie added that the company was exploring “financial relationships” and would sharpen its focus to emphasize its core apparel and footwear businesses.

Rock & Republic was founded in 2002 by Chief Executive Michael Ball and has become known for its edgy and sexy clothing, including premium jeans priced at $200 or more. The bankruptcy petition was filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York. The company said it had obtained a commitment for a line of credit from CIT Group/Commercial Services Inc.

Levi’s Sues Evisu Over Tribute Jeans

Levi's Sues Evisu Over Tribute Jean

The Levi’s x Evisu (evis) infringement saga has a long history and has now taken a new twist.

Only weeks after Scott Morrison, current chief executive of Evisu and founder of Paper Denim & Cloth, shared plans for a Levi’s inspired collection called Tribute, Levi Strauss & Co. accused Evisu of violating a 1999 agreement between the two firms. In an interview with Dazed Digital, posted two days ago, Morrison said of his autumn/winter collection for Evisu:

“We used the word ‘reference’ as a starting point. It’s obviously a broad term, but the idea was to go back to Evisu’s love affair with Levi’s, Americana and especially the 1944 Levi’s 501 XX. The history is that during the war, the US government forbade all use of unnecessary fabrics. So Levi’s had to stop sew on the thread on the back of each jeans back pocket, and they painted them on instead. Hence the Evisu painted on seagull logo! There’s a great ‘reference’ tradition within Evisu and we took that thought process and applied to key items from history. We wanted to start re-telling the origins of how Evisu came into being.”

Morrison also told WWD earlier in March the collection “would pay homage to Levi’s 1944 501 jeans, its 1890 “Nevada” pair and its 1917 “Campbell” jeans.”

Where reference ends and a violation of copyright begins is a very fine line in fashion.

Dirk Bikkembergs Unveils New Concept Store

Dirk Bikkembergs Unveils New Concept Store

Over recent weeks, Dirk Bikkembergs opened a first Bikkembergs in-store corner at the Liberty department store in Naples. The opening introduces a new in-store concept, which will be applied across more locations in the near future. It follows in the wake of the recent opening of a Dirk Bikkembergs store in Livigno.

With the recent opening of the first new Bikkembergs in-store corner, Dirk Bikkembergs has set the tone for the rollout of its new in-store concept. The corner, which opened in Naples, covers some 35 m2 at the Liberty department store. In the near future, Dirk Bikkembergs will be opening more in-store corners across Italy, as well as in the other markets.

The new in-store concept follows shortly after the opening of the Dirk Bikkembergs mono-brand store in Livigno, a popular destination in the Italian Alps. The Dirk Bikkembergs store has a prime location at the centre of Livigno and covers some 150 m2.

Both the in-store concept and the Livigno store take their inspiration from the Bikkembergs floor at Manzoni 47, the brand’s Milan flagship store, which was originally conceived as a blueprint for all future retail projects.

With the opening of increasingly more dedicated retail spaces, the brand is taking its unique approach deeper into the market, thus offering the end-consumer greater exposure to the full brand experience.

In addition, the brand announces the opening of a new mono-brand store in the historic heart of Verona by autumn this year.
