Super-rare Ijin Ankle Cutter bastard brogue boot

Super-rare Ijin Ankle Cutter bastard boot
A few years ago ( in 2006 to be precise ) Phil Ijin designed a Lo-Top Hybrid Work-Boot that was not Sport nor Street, neither Fish nor Fowl , nor Sneeker nor Shoe, as far as classifying feet were concerned.

This super-rare Ijin Ankle Cutter had one last trick up its jeans cuff however & its that strange gussetted & over long tongue, to boot ( sic).
This particular detail was interpreted from vintage Vivienne Westwood ”Breaker Boots” ,er, ”back in the day”.

Giuliano Fujiwara Spring 2010 Campaign

It is paradoxical for Giuliano Fujiwara to be based in Milan, working as a part of the Italian fashion design community. Characteristically Japanese, Fujiwara seems antithetical to everything Italian. He is introverted while Italians are generally extroverted. He under-states while Italians exaggerate. He is reserved while Italians are expressive. Nevertheless, he seems comfortable in Milan where he has lived and worked since 1976, first as a designer for Barbas and then creating his own line of menswear. “If I stayed in Japan,” Fujiwara muses, “my work might have followed the direction of Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto.” Presumably he is talking about the Japanese fashion environment, which encourages avantgarde approaches to menswear.

The Fujiwara style is a curious mixture of American Ivy League, Japanese stark simplicity, and Italian sensitivity in fabrication and workmanship. Take a typical Fujiwara jacket: it has many similarities to the traditional American style—a straight-cut body, the high button stance, small lapels, the jacket length shorter that the Savile Row prototype. “The Ivy League style was my first love. I loved the way JFK looked,” he says, remembering his college days when he organized a group to study the manner of dressing. His first job was with a company called Van Jacket. Although it has long been defunct, Van was a catalyst in propagating the Ivy League look in post-World War II Japan, and its influence is felt even today, as in Fujiwara’s case.

Thom Browne Menswear Autumn/Winter 2010

Thom Browne Menswear Autumn/Winter 2010
The Thom Browne Menswear Autumn/Winter 2010 collection represents the epitome of the pointlessness of apres ski. Over-sized coats and nordic knits peppered with raccoon tails and shameless compliance. Not what we’ve come to expected from the usually distinct and insightful brand.

Thom Browne (born in 1965) is an American fashion designer. He is the founder and head of design for Thom Browne, a New York City-based menswear brand. Browne was named the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Menswear Designer of the Year in March 2006.

Browne grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from William Allen High School. He then attended the University of Notre Dame, where he received a degree in economics. He was also a member of the swim team. Following an attempt at acting in Los Angeles, Browne moved to New York City in 1997 for a job as a salesman in Giorgio Armani’s showroom.

Browne was picked up by Club Monaco, a brand of the Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, to lead its creative development team. He worked with the American fashion designer Ralph Lauren in this capacity. Browne spent several years at Club Monaco leading its design department before launching his own label.

Louis Vuitton - GQ Australia’s February/March 2010
GQ Australia’s February/March 2010 issue visits Singapore for an engaging spread dedicated to Louis Vuitton’s spring 2010 collection. Presented by Jolyon Mason, Louis Vuitton’s boys are treated to exotic scenes as photographed by Gan.

History: Louis Vuitton launched his firm after gaining experience making luggage and trunks for Napoléon III. A century and a half later, his namesake brand is the anchor of the world’s largest luxury-goods company. (Side note: LV’s signature monogram, which dates to 1896, was actually introduced to discourage counterfeiting.) In the 2000s, LV menswear came into its own under the creative direction of Marc Jacobs and his studio director Paul Helbers, a Margiela alum with a knack for combining classical craftsmanship with futuristic colors, cuts, and fabrics.

Ijin indigo goes neutral

Ijin indigo goes neutral

At Ijin headquarters the fearless Phil Ijin knows no jeans-making boundaries & showing unbleached & unseeded organic cotton, selvedged ”denim” for the Standard red-line leg presented no real moral issues. After all , denim was not always blue, & canvas qualities ruled the prospector roost, back in the day & once upon a time ( in America). And then there’s that description ”Red-line”.On closer inspection we can notice that whilst red is present on the ”self-edge” , there is a more unusual orange line accompanying the red one, creating a slightly Rustic Summer feel.Interesting is that the shaggy Ox calf label pays homage to the ‘hair-on-hide” classic waist label, however tipped on it’s feet & sewn on the left side ( like all Ijin selvedge cuts ) it is signature Ijin through & through, especially with the Diamond sewn rivets & that triple needle back seam ( the only 3 needle seam on the garment, specially added for extra resistance).

And Resistance this certainly is,in the Indigo sphere, so waste no time sitting on the fence, ”Go Neutral” & always remember:
”the revolution will not be televised: the revolution will be live”.

Marc Jacobs hat by Peseta

bicycle cap by peSeta for Marc Jacobs.

this forth collaboration with the american designer is a limited, hand numbered series of bicycle cap. we used plaid fabric and we changed a little bit the typical stripe.

the label is, as usual, something more than justa piece of paper. we´ve made a “spoke card” of fabric, with respect for all the bikers in the world.
peSeta has been collaborating with Marc Jacobs since 2008.

this is the forth special item designed and produced here in madrid, spain.

it all started when they visited us in our boutique-atelier and proposed to do something together. now this is more than just a punctual project, is something more established, a long term relationship where we can design and produce with total american freedom and mediterranean soul…

as the rest of these collaborations, this cap can only be found at the Marc by Marc Jacobs stores in New York, London and Paris.

Justin Timberlake on William Rast:

“I guess I think it’s because we’re not trying to be something that we’re not. We’re consistent with our culture and we’ll always be that way. The way to build a brand is that people like to depend on things and we want to be the kind of brand that people can depend on. I don’t think we’re trying to be couture, I think we gain more respect for not trying so hard and just emulating the designs that we love. And we’ll continue to do that.”

Sounds like possible lyrics for Justin’s next album?

G-Star Autumn/Winter 2010

G-Star Autumn/Winter 2010

A number of commentators have accused G-Star of losing the plot with their New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2010 offering. The bright greens, yellows and blues attracted mutterings of flop from the sides of the runway and someone even suggested Big Bird would soon be making an entrance. Regardless of the collection, G-Star certainly know how to entertain, so hats off to them for that.

Common Projects x Evisu Trainers

Common Projects x Evisu Trainers

Evisu and Common Projects will debut their first footwear collaboration — two men’s sneaker styles — at next week’s Project show in Las Vegas.

Branded as Evisu by Common Projects, the vulcanized, leather low- and high-top styles will come in three colorways and will feature Common Projects’ foil heel stamp. The fall ’10 styles will be sold at Evisu shops and in select boutiques, and retail for $165 (for low-tops) and $185 (for high-tops).?

Denim brand Evisu named Scott Morrison, formerly of Paper Denim & Cloth and Earnest Sewn, to the CEO position in spring ’09. Under Morrison, the brand announced its intention to focus on its history as a premium Japanese denim brand. And while the label has previously had footwear through a licensee, the Common Projects collaboration will be its first such project under new leadership — and the brand’s only footwear.

Peter Poopat, co-creator (with Flavio Girolami) of Common Projects, told Footwear News that the pairing got his brand back to its roots. “When Common Projects first began, we wanted the label to be something like what we’re doing with Evisu — something for a wider audience, but still premium,” he said. “Originally, we wanted it to sell at $150, so this was an interesting project.”?

Poopat said the collaboration also let Common Projects explore a new construction: vulcanized outsoles. “Scott wears Chuck Taylors a lot, so we thought about Chucks and things like that,” he said. ?

According to Poopat, Common Projects handled the design and development of the shoes, and Evisu oversaw production, as well as sales and distribution. ?

Morrison told FN he thinks the sneakers will bring new fans to Evisu. “Any of our existing Evisu customers would be a natural fit, and certainly that’s intended,” he said. “But I’d also imagine that we’re going to be appealing to consumers who have long admired Common Projects, or to existing customers who want something special.” via WWD.
